AT & T is expanding their wireless broadband network in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas due to a recent increase in the amount of people accessing the Internet through AT&T’s network. This expansion will include improvements to their 4G network and existing 3G networks as well to cover more devices still utilizing 3G networking platforms. Construction has already commenced on several new carrier towers to meet the continually increasing wi-fi demands in the Philadelphia area. There has been no firmly established end date as to when these improvements will be completed and in full operation.

The increase is to help create more connections to improve the speed and reliability of those connections for both mobile broadband voice and data services. The additional of newly created resources adds more wi-fi hot spots and therefore increases capacity. The airport, North and South Philadelphia, Tacony, Richmond and Center City are cited as areas where the new amplified broadband service will be most evident.

AT & T also recently announced that they are providing free Internet access to all users in 20 of New York’s parks. Plans to offer this in Philadelphia are still undergoing the initial decision process to bring this into reality. There is no set date on this yet.
